If your post is tapered at all, you are in trouble! – As others have noted, the bolts that come with this will not work unless your post has a thickness that’s within a pretty narrow range. For me that meant two trips to the hardware store to get shorter bolts of different lengths before I finally found ones that worked all right.

Easily Adaptable – So, what do you do if you have a double post staircase(no walls)? The majority of child/pet security gates are to be mounted against walls. After finding a gate that mounts against standing posts the Cardinal Gate Clamps allow for the mounting of the gate with options for square post of different sizes. Incredibly easy to mount. Adaptable for a variety of post sizes too!

Make Baby Gate Work on Round Bannister – This product saved our lives. We have a round wooden bannister with spiral detailing in a rental home. Can’t make any changes, or bolt into place. With this we were finally able to put our baby gate up to block the stairway. This comes as unfinished wood so that it can be stained to match any finish.

Not a complicated part – I bought 2 of these for installation of a cardinal gate. They really aren’t complicated if you are mechanically inclined: 2 blocks of wood with some drilled holes (one with t-nuts) and a couple of screws. They do work and in our case were needed because the handrail would have covered the lock mechanism and this allowed me to shift it out to where I could reach it. My one complaint is that they should send a couple of lengths of screws. I had to buy new ones. At a minimum, they should print on the document that comes with them what thread to buy so I didn’t have to take the part there and figure it out (I think it was 1/4-20, so not hard to find, but I’d take the part to the hardware store to be sure!)

Measure up first!! – I bought these without measuring, just knowing I had to install on bannisters at the top of our stairs. Unfortunately fitting these onto the bannisters made the opening too narrow for the gate itself, so I ended up having to drill into the biggest spindles at the top. Total bummer because I’d already painted these to match the wood! They’re great quality if they fit your dimensions.

Great if they send the proper bolts – The first bolts had threading the whole way down the bolt. The second and 3rd set did not. Unusuable with my small banisters

Worked perfectly for us – The curved adapter worked perfectly for us. We only need one adapter for the top of our tapered banister. All of the hardware was there, the holes aligned. We did use the included shim, but probably didnt need to. I did wrap some foam that we had for baby proofing furniture around the banister to protect it and help adjust for the tapering, but probably wasnt necessary. Would definitely reccomend this adapter.
