White noise is best to sleep for a light sleeper – I am a light sleeper. Every little sound wakes me up. I have been looking to get a white noise machine for a while now. I was able to order this and try it out. My neighbor’s dogs bark a lot even late at night and that keeps me up. I plugged this machine in and it does not have a light function which I see on other reviews and that is great for me as I keep my bedroom very dark to help me sleep. Most of the sounds are just noises and are mostly annoying to me and I cannot fall asleep to 98% of them. The white, fan and brown sounds however were great to put on while I was going to sleep. The volume could be louder as I put it up all the way. The other sounds are much louder that the white and brown noise. I was able to fall asleep. I left it on continuous instead of the timer of 1, 2 or 3 hour settings as I will still wake up. I do wish the cord to plug in the wall was longer. Very short and just fits my side bedtable.

It has a power button, a volume knob, forward- and backward-arrow keys that enable selection among 30 different sounds, and a button to select the ON timer setting: 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr, and infinity (always on). Oddly, the timer button also allows the user to turn off the LED indicators for the timer setting. I can’t imagine why you’d want to turn off those little LED indicator lights, as they are recessed and scarcely bigger than pinheads; consequently, their brightness in a darkened room could not possibly bother anyone trying to get to sleep.

So if you have a favorite sound to relax too, a simple on will continue on the sound you selected when it last turned off. The biggest con is probably lack of LCD screen to know which sound you’re playing. On the other hand it is rather obvious what you’re hearing, so it is not a big deal. It would have been nice to have a small chart of the various sounds printed on a sticker on the bottom of the machine, but keeping the instruction book nearby will have to suffice.
